Volunteer
Get out there and make the world a better place! Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and take part in your community. There are many volunteer search engines, a few of our favorites are:
VolunteerMatch: matches inspired people with inspiring causes.
Just Serve: Find volunteer opportunities in a variety of areas. Can also search for remote volunteer options.
WOOFING: You can search the Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms website and check out volunteer opportunities on different organic farms. Most volunteers work for food and a place to stay, but some may get a small stipend too. The length of your stay at the farm is negotiated directly between you and your host. Most WWOOF visits are between one and two weeks, though some may be as short as two or three days or as long as six months.
Bike & Build: Bike and Build is a great option for bike enthusiasts 18-25 (and leaders up to 28). Bike and Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips which benefit affordable housing groups. You join a team of other young people and ride your bike from coast to coast, while building houses along the way. Each member needs to raise money for affordable housing causes and train beforehand, but no extensive cycling experience is necessary.
St. Louis Emergency Response Team This program offers AmeriCorps positions which focus on national disaster relief and conservation projects.
Red Cross Volunteer with Red Cross and help people whose lives have been effected by natural disasters.
AmeriCorps: Consider another AmeriCorps term! Use this search engine to find the perfect program for you. You can search by state and/or interest. Programs vary from health, environment, education, disaster relief and more.
AmeriCorps NCCC: is a full-time, 10 month team-based residential program for adults ages 18-24. NCCC develops leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. In partnership with non-profits, local municipalities, state governments, federal government, national and state parks, Indian tribes, and schools, members complete service projects throughout the region they are assigned.
Food Corps: partners with AmeriCorps and places emerging leaders into limited-resource schools for a year of service implementing our three-ingredient recipe for healthy kids. FoodCorps members teach hands-on lessons about food and nutrition, build and tend school gardens and teach cooking lessons so kids can taste the fresh food they’ve grow, and change what’s on children’s lunch trays, giving them healthy food from local farms.
